Monty Python were a British surreal comedy troupe who created the sketch comedy television show Monty Python's Flying Circus. This show first aired on the BBC in 1969 and over 40 episodes were made over four series. Whilst almost everyone would have heard of them, do you really know who they are?

Monty Python's Flying Circus has been referred to as being "an important moment in the evolution of television comedy". In fact, the Python's influence of comedy has been compared to the Beatles' influence on music. So, how did this come about?
The show was written and performed by the Pythons (as seen above) and it pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on TV at the time. They were known to experiment with their content and constantly stepped outside the norms of comedy television. As a result, this made their audience fall in love with the show.
Monty Python continued to impress and moved on to making films such as "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", "Life of Brian" and "The Meaning of Life". Then, in 1988, Monty Python received the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema. The python's progressed to make even more successful films as well as books and music.
